Ian Tamasi – Senior Archaeologist
Ian has worked in the field of archaeology, with particular focus on the Kootenay Region since 2004 with previous archaeological experience in surrounding regions and Alberta starting in 1998. In 2007, Ian qualified to hold, and has since completed dozens of, BC Heritage Inspection Permits to facilitate archaeological inspection assessments and site alterations; this has contributed to his extensive experience in forestry, mining, hydro-electric, recreational, municipal, and residential sectors. Since 2010, he has maintained membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists (BCAPA)
Andrea Thompson – Senior Archaeologist
Andrea has worked actively in archaeology since 2008, with field and research experience in several regions of Eastern and Western Canada. Andrea’s research has focussed primarily upon zooarchaeological analyses and Arctic archaeology (Nunavik Palaeoeskimo), with seasonal CRM, excavation, and survey experience in interior BC (Interior Plateau), interior and southern Quebec, and on the East Coast of Nova Scotia. Andrea made the move back to her roots in the Kootenays in 2012, and attained permit holding status with the B.C. Archaeology Branch in 2014.
Nyomi Sherwin – Permit Holding Archaeologist
Nyomi has worked in the field of archaeology and cultural resource management since 2013. She has experience conducting and directing archaeological assessments, including mitigation programs, in the Interior and Coastal regions for forestry, municipal, mining, hydro, and residential projects. She is a permit holding archaeologist in the Interior region as well as a field-directing archaeologist in the Northwest Coast and the Interior Plateau. In addition, she is an Associate member of the BC Association of Professional Archaeologists (BCAPA).
Dan Heinrichs – Permit Holding Archaeologist
Dan is a permit holding archaeologist in the Interior Plateau region of British Columbia. He has worked in the field of archaeology since 2014, with a focus on Kootenay archaeology starting in 2016. In 2014 and 2015, Dan spent several months working with the Medical Legal Institute of El Salvador as a forensic archaeologist intern, providing him with experience identifying and reconstructing human skeletal remains. Dan is currently an Associate member of the BC Association of Professional Archaeologists (BCAPA).
Justin Hanna – Archaeologist and Field Director
Justin graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2017 with a Bachelor of
Arts in Anthropology, and has worked in cultural resource management within British Columbia since then. In 2019, he moved to the Kootenays and quickly became enamored with the area in both an archaeological and in a contemporary context. Currently, he is working towards obtaining his Archaeological Field Director status within the Interior Plateau so that he can lead archaeological assessments throughout the area. During his off-time, Justin enjoys being outdoors, hiking, camping, kayaking, and golfing.
Ronan Mehault, PhD (Anthropology) – GIS Specialist and Archaeologist
Ronan has worked professionally in archaeology since 2009, with field and research experience in northwestern France, and in Eastern and Western Canada. Ronan’s research has focussed primarily upon the recent pre-Contact Period in Northeastern North America that he addressed with the use of evolutionary theories and methodologies. Ronan has taught archaeological courses at university and has trained students in archaeology in the context of the Archaeology Field School at the Université de Montréal. He has also held archaeological research permits in Eastern Canada and remains an active researcher with recent publications in national periodicals and international textbooks. Ronan has been working for PAC since 2021 as a Director, GIS specialist, field archaeologist, and a consultant in Anthropology.
Cyrus Klamer – Archaeologist
Cyrus graduated from the University of Calgary in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Archaeology and a minor in Anthropology. His education led him to field school in the plains of Alberta, participating in excavations with Siksika Nation. Since graduation, Cyrus has worked in cultural resource management in the Kootenays region of British Columbia. Becoming an Archaeological Field Supervisor in the spring of 2024, he has experience identifying, recording, and mitigating archaeological resources under limited direction. In his spare time, Cyrus enjoys learning more about and exploring the Kootenays, including rock climbing, canoeing, and skiing.
Marshall Ezelle – Admin and Safety Manager
Marshall has worked in the field of archaeology since 2018 as a Field Technician. In 2019 he became a full-time Safety Officer and was responsible for obtaining and maintaining audit compliance with the BC Forest Safety Council’s COR certification process. Since Pathways’ inception in 2020, Marshall has been a founding member and the Health and Safety Manager. More recently he has taken on the role of Admin and Safety Manager. In addition to maintaining Pathways’ SAFE certification, he is also responsible for writing and implementing policy, procuring equipment, employee training, as well as logistical support and maintenance of fleet vehicles.
